abillion Plant-based Trends to Watch in 2022

These plant-based and sustainability trends are set to make a splash in 2022

When Impossible Foods debuted its “bleeding” plant-based patties in 2016, it jolted the world into sitting up to take notice.

For many, this was the tipping point when veganism entered the mainstream, given the rambunctious way in which Impossible trumpeted its innovations with celebrity chefs and flashy advertisements.

Nearly six years have passed and the world is now a different place. One could say that the signs were written in the stars. What followed can be described as an awakening. Documentaries like The Game Changers came out hard and fast, prompting more to think about the environment.

Then, the pandemic arrived and covered the globe in a dark shroud. As we all collectively stayed home and wondered if the end of the world was nigh, people and corporations started to rethink their relationship with the planet and all the living beings that we share it with. If the world was vegan, we would never have been in this predicament. Soon, every institution from Burger King to Balenciaga began brandishing their version of animal-free products. So here we are in 2022. The plant-based movement has gained enough momentum for us to dig deep into our data set as well as existing public research to scope out the trends that will define the year ahead.

We’ve narrowed it down to 10, and the overarching theme seems to be that large businesses are beginning to jump on the vegan bandwagon, and an increasing number will do so over the next 12 months. While the cynical might call it commercial opportunism, there is no denying that the fewer animals harmed in our unending consumption, the better.

From fast food chains to high street menswear, beauty conglomerates to chocolate makers, here is our predictive report on the plant based trends of 2022, put together by our tireless team of data scientists and researchers.
